Tooth Fillings

When having caries or a broken tooth the first option is often fillings. At ZahnCity we provide you with the latest on the market considering plastic fillings.

We choose between different white shades, opaque levels, dentin/enamel properties and brands depending on situation. In the front the light has a significant role for teeth's appearance. Because of that we need different attribute for the plastic fillings so it will match surrounding teeth. Sometimes when we have to repair most of the chewing surface or it is a grinding patient we recommend porcelain fillings which are more durable for years of abrasion. This procedure is similar with crown preparation but we save more of the tooth substance.

At ZahnCity we do not use metal, also known as, amalgam fillings. These are alloys containing mercury which can affect the brain and nervous system in free form. This risk is low with fillings orally because of small amalgam amounts and low corrosion effect but studies have shown that the more we use amalgam in the community, the higher levels will be measured in nature. This means that the food we eat like meat and vegetables will contain a higher level of mercury in its critical form. This reason together with the poor aesthetic factor and the need of removing major dental substance to hold the filling makes it easy for us to exclude it.

Research is still being made analyzing the individual risk of having amalgam fillings. However what we do know is the corrosion effect of the amalgam fillings which is constantly ongoing. This means that amalgam fillings have an unceasing enlargement which finally results in fractures of the tooth parts surrounding these fillings. Therefore we always recommend patients to change their amalgam fillings to plastic or porcelain fillings before the tooth will break. In the same time it gives the teeth a better aesthetic appearance.
